Guest Post: FEIT Flashlight Review
(Thank you to reader RH for writing this and taking photos of your test setup.)
Introduction
Recently, I purchased this flashlight/power bank at Costco.
It is a rechargeable, 3000 lumen flashlight that also doubles as a power bank. It is currently listed at $40 on Costco’s website, but I purchased it for $25 when it was on sale. I would expect to see it on sale again near Christmas.
The flashlight offers 3 brightness modes: 700, 1500, and 3000 lumens. I tested all three modes outside last night.
As you can see, the 3000 lumen mode is significantly brighter than the other two – but of course – with a reduced battery life.
The battery in this light is a Lithium Ion 26650, providing 6000mAh at 3.7V equaling 22.2Wh. According to the packaging, this will provide 3000 lumens for over 3 hours! This also equates to 5 hours on the 1500 lumen mode, and over 12 hours on the 700 lumen mode. That’s quite a lot of bright light!
Sometimes, though, you don’t want all that bright light and here’s the neat part about this flashlight. Since it functions as a battery bank as well, it has a USB-C port for charging, and a USB-A port to plug other devices, such as your cell phone, into it for charging.
I wanted a way to have low power light as well, so recently I purchased this LED stalk light and a red USB button light. They were a couple of dollars each from eBay.
This allows me to plug these into the flashlight for low power lighting that won’t carry nearly as far, and thus is suitable for in-tent lighting, stealthy map reading, etc.
A few other bits of detail:
In addition to the built in lithium battery, you can also run this flashlight on 3 C cells, but your battery life will be significantly reduced.
The flashlight beam is adjustable via a twist zoom, and if I had one complaint about it, is that it doesn’t zoom in as tight as I would like – but with 3000 lumens, it really lights up the area!
Overall, this light is around 12” long and made of machined aluminum, so it has some heft to it. Not quite what the old D cell Maglites had (but enough to do some damage if necessary). Overall, a good buy, especially when it’s on sale.
