I wrote the subtitle to this post to clear up any questions; this blog has seen hundreds of new visitors in the past week and none of you really know anything about me. (So you may want to read my Q&A section.)|
I am not so arrogant to state that I have no fear in this world but fear doesn’t drive me. I keep this succinct meme on my smart phone to remind me of exactly this:
So, onward!
My New Apartment
I researched the area of Round Rock, TX. When I came across this floorplan I thought it was ideal: 1100 square feet with an adjacent garage and storage room on the ground floor (in red): I could have my resources near me.
Moving everything in was a task and a half. I utilized some U-Boxes and one held my lathe which was around 600 lb. I asked a passing neighbor to help shift it into the garage. The guy was former Army and had the forearms to prove it. Even he broke a sweat and gave me a WTF look.
Resilience
Step one was to refill all the Jerry cans with fuel. Label the expiration date.
There are many schools of thought on preserving gasoline but I have had great success with the Stabil additive. I penned these notes on the box and yes, I milled out that wrench from 6061 aluminum.
Water and Food
There is no community water spigot in this complex so I bought an adapter for my kitchen sink. It was a 50’ run down the stairs to the 50 gallon water barrels.
A kind coworker loaned me his hose.
To preserve water I have found that the two part Aquamira kit is great. You mix the two bottles into a glass cup, wait 5 minutes and then it it is fine for two years.
I have restarted the effort of buying canned goods. I left them all for my ex-wife in AZ to her betterment and I do not regret it.
