(I’m falling behind in my usual cadence so here’s a repost from the early days of this blog, still relevant today, – Dan. D.)
“The torment of precaution is worse than the dangers it seeks to avoid: it is better to abandon yourself to destiny.” - Napoleon
I read this in a tweet by Jash Dohlani1 and thought it beneficial to repeat. It does represent an extreme in thinking but most prep blogs are exercises in the same domain: the admonition to now redline the engine after so many years of idling.
I take a more balanced approach to both thinking and doing (I think?) I am not going to publish a word search puzzle here for relaxation but I do assume that you – a well adjusted member of society – finds joy in family, nature and in life itself. Daily.
Below is a graph I show when giving corporate presentations on self-reliance. It comes from chapter 4 of the book Holding Your Ground2 by author Joe Nobody:
We must presume that given time, the chaos from some event will decrease as society reorganizes. (If the gray curve doesn’t angle back down then we have a Mad Max situation.) So, our team/tribe goal here is to ride through the hump with maximum success for ourselves and our families.
One concept I wish you to embrace it is that nobody is coming to help you. Certainly not the government (dialing 911 is the pinnacle of this sick joke) and rescue parties are the contrivances of feel-good movies. You may have like minded friends but they will be taking care of their own families as they should.
You are largely on your own and thus responsible. Always be working toward a meaningful outcome.
